Kocen 2003 Summer Vacation
Hot Springs, AR
Today we drove to Nashville, home to country music and the state capital.
Our first stop was the Belle Meade Plantation, it goes back to 1830 or so and had 4 generations who owned and operated it as a farm and bred horses
This was the smoke house. Two stories of pork and beef was smoked all year long
The stables held some impressive sires. Most of the big time winners trace their roots back to these stables
Belinda is using a 35 mm SLR camera with a small zoom. The only problem is the camera weighs a ton compared to todays all in one
When the farm started, the owners had 2 slaves but that grew to over 130. This is one of the slave houses
Downtown Nashville has some very interesting architecture like the building on the right.
Houston has cows, Nashville has catfish.
Andrew is giving video recording a try. He provides a running commentary every time he records our trip. This could be very interesting.
The Country Hall of Fame. Sorry no photos from inside, they don't trust us.
This is kind of interesting, lots of oldy country music and video interviews. Did you know the Eagles were country?
Nashville is the state capital. We had a very hard time finding a parking space but finally stopped in a reserved spot. It was about 5pm and they don't reserve the spaces after 6pm.
Looking down the hill from the capital.
More capital building
That is Andrew running down the hill. It took him a while to walk back up.
This is a clock and a few minutes after we left it let out a loud BONG. I am sure it would have made Belinda jump if it went off when we were there.

Tomorrow more Nashville...

Second Day in Nashville

We went to the Parthenon, Nashville's Fine Arts Museum. We just walked around the grounds and took pictures.
They guys again
Like I said before, Houston has cows and Nashville has Cat Fish
Andrew was trying to ride this like a bucking cat fish, fortunately he did not fall off
The building is big. The columns are probably 10 feet in diameter
The ceiling has this wonderful mosaic of tile. They also put up some netting and we figured it must be to keep the birds from making nests
We fed the ducks gold fish (the cracker type)
There is also a locomotive on site that you can step up into and see the controls and such
The next stop was the Grand Ole Opry. The actual theatre was closed but their walk through exhibits were pretty good.
Andrew tried his voice at singing on the stage. All he sang was 'La La La La'
Our last stop of the day was this little strip center that has star imprints
Alan Jackson
George Strait who sang that 'All of my ex's live in Texas and that is why I hangs his hat in Tennessee', smart guy

Tomorrow is Chattanooga and Jack Daniel's distillery
